TLDR

Mediagenix is a Groot-Bijgaarden-based SaaS vendor that builds content scheduling and lifecycle-management software for broadcasters and streaming services, with roots in the Belgian commercial television market and global reach.

Overview

Mediagenix was founded in 1992 in Groot-Bijgaarden (Dilbeek), near Brussels, as OO Partners, a small object-oriented software firm whose first major project was building the program scheduling system for newly launched Flemish commercial broadcaster VTM. That product, originally called PSI (Integrated Planning System) and later PSI96, evolved into WHATS'ON, the broadcast management platform that powered the company's growth. The firm was renamed Mediagenix in 1995 after Belgian public broadcaster RTBF became a customer. The headquarters remains at Nieuwe Gentsesteenweg 21/1, 1702 Groot-Bijgaarden.

The company sells software for content strategy, content value management, content scheduling, and content personalisation, used by linear broadcasters, public service media, and streaming services. The WHATS'ON platform handles rights, planning, and publishing across linear, VOD, and FAST channels. Mediagenix has grown to over 300 employees representing more than 30 nationalities, with offices in Miami (the US headquarters), New York, Denver, London, Madrid, Paris, Sydney, Bangkok, Singapore, and Skopje alongside its Belgian base. Customers include 180+ media groups, including BBC, France Télévisions, ITV, ProSiebenSat.1, TF1, DPG Media, Al Jazeera, AMC, DAZN, and BT Sport.

Fabrice Maquignon joined as CEO in February 2020, the same year Belgian private equity firm Sofindev took a strategic stake. In November 2020 Dutch-Belgian private equity firm Deparco joined Sofindev as a co-shareholder to back further growth. In 2022 Mediagenix acquired UK-based BeBanjo, a media business management vendor, to expand its non-linear capabilities. In September 2024 it acquired French personalisation specialist Spideo, founded in 2010 by Gabriel Mandelbaum and Thibault d'Orso, to integrate AI-driven content recommendations into its scheduling automation. The same year Mediagenix also absorbed the media program management solution of a North American broadcast adtech vendor to expand its US footprint.

Notes

Mediagenix is one of the longest-running Belgian B2B software companies still independent of the largest US enterprise software vendors. The combination of a thirty-year customer base, Sofindev/Deparco private-equity backing, and an active M&A cadence makes it a structural Belgian media-tech anchor. Its product is unusual in being purely B2B and largely invisible to consumers despite touching nearly every major TV brand in Europe.
