Background
Bernard Thiry has been Interim Chairman of Elia Group since 2025, following Bernard Gustin's move from Chairman to CEO of the group. Born in 1955, he obtained a master's and a PhD in Economics from the University of Liège in 1985 and continues to teach as a professor at HEC Liège. He previously served as director of the Belgian energy regulator CREG, chairman of the management committee of Forem, and chairman of the Union nationale des mutualités socialistes. Between 2008 and 2016 he was CEO of Ethias, the Belgian insurer.
He holds further board positions at Publi-T, Publipart and Publigaz, and chairs SOCOFE, Solidaris Assurances, and Intégrale Luxembourg.
