A lot of “software-defined” production is still hardware emulation: mixer logic in a VM, virtual faders, the same proprietary control model and ultra‑specialised operators.
In “Game of Streams – The Production API”, Magnus Svensson argues the real change is deeper: reimplementing mixing, routing, loudness and intercom as open, callable services and redesigning workflows around them.
That lets you evolve operator profiles from (nearly) brand‑specific specialists to more generalist roles that can handle more productions while meeting budget targets.
#Artisto follows this path on the audio side: audio‑first, microservices, with routing, mixing, DSP and contribution exposed via JSON/WebSocket APIs, and web UIs plus physical control surfaces as deployable clients.
The goal is not to remove consoles, but to provide a true audio production API that enables new workflows and shifts how teams organise and operate live shows.
