That is changing. Operators now use it to win municipal contracts, cover labor shortages, and hold service reliability as expectations rise. 20 percent-plus efficiency, pointed at growth, not just cost.
The word doing the work is strategic. And strategic only holds if the solver models what waste actually runs on: multi-trip routes, depot and dump-site scheduling, vehicle capacity, and recurring service-day patterns. GPS routing never touches those.
It also has to be future-proof. OnRoute models waste segregation rules and picks drop-off sites efficiently, so a constraint that becomes law next year is a config change, not a rebuild.
That is the difference between routing that cuts a bill and routing that wins the contract.
