A diamond that cost €3,670 (~$4,200) a decade ago now has an identical twin selling for under €875 (~$1,000) - and most people, including plenty of jewellers with a loupe in hand, cannot tell the two apart. This isn't a niche shift happening at the margins of the jewellery trade any more. Lab-grown diamonds now account for 61% of US engagement ring purchases, according to The Knot's 2026 Real #Weddings Study - up from 52% just a year earlier and 46% the year before that. So what's actually going on here, and what does it say about the "diamonds are forever" #investment story we've all been sold for the better part of a century?
