đ« You donât need OpenAI or Anthropic for every AI project.
Yet many companies still follow the same path:
â Choose a major AI provider
â Connect its API
â Send company data to a system they donât controlÂ
For Canon, we took a different approach.
The challenge?
Classify large volumes of documents accurately and securely.
Our starting point wasnât:
âWhich AI model should we use?â
It was:
âWhat is the simplest solution that can do the job well?â
So we built a lightweight, fully open-source systemâdeployed within Canonâs private cloud.
The result:
â
Data remains under Canonâs control
â
The solution meets the actual business need
â
It is designed around European data and AI requirements
â
It outperformed a leading commercial alternative on two datasets
â
It achieved the same perfect score on the thirdÂ
The lesson?
More AI doesnât always mean better AI.
Sometimes, the best solution is simply the one that is:
â More focused
â More controlled
â More efficientÂ
Before asking which AI provider to use, ask whether you need one at all.
