GEOxyz at the LirIC interconnector, Irish Sea.
GEOxyz recently undertook unexploded ordnance investigation and geotechnical surveys along the route of the proposed LirIC HVDC subsea interconnector between Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The survey scope combined offshore and nearshore work. Geo Ocean IX carried out the offshore UXO investigation with towed equipment and geotechnical work including cone penetration testing and vibrocore sampling. GeoSurveyor VIII handled the nearshore surveys in water depths less than 10 metres. The programme covered UXO investigation only, with no detonation or disposal.
Work like this is the groundwork beneath a cable route, the data that lets a project move from concept to construction with confidence in what lies on and below the seabed.
