The current MCP specification gives a client that already knows a server a server/discover method for learning that server’s identity and supported capabilities before making other requests. Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD), an emerging open specification, addresses discovery across a wider landscape, allowing AI clients to find resources such as MCP servers, agents, skills, and APIs before selecting and connecting to them through their native mechanisms. This adds another dimension to the developer portal question. Organizations may have machine-readable catalogs and registries for finding agentic resources, alongside a developer portal that places those resources within the wider context of API products, business domains, ownership, documentation, and governance.
