Introducing LuData
Over the last two years, we have been building LuData, LuciSun’s platform for solar data and PV engineering services.
The idea is simple:
Bring the data and engineering models solar professionals need into one place, accessible through both UI and API, and designed to fit into the tools and workflows they already use.
Today, LuData brings together:
• historical solar resource and meteorological data
• TMY and PXX datasets
• NWP based forecasting, updated every 6 hours
• digital elevation and horizon services
• PV yield modelling with detailed loss analysis
• dedicated soiling and snow loss assessments
WHY DID WE BUILD IT?
Because these are needs we face ourselves at LuciSun when supporting our engineering teams and our clients.
Over time, we kept seeing the same challenges:
• data, models and simulations spread across different services
• increasing data and simulation costs as usage scales, particularly for SMEs and in markets where project values and engineering budgets are lower
• APIs that are not always easy to integrate into existing products
• significant time spent adapting formats and connecting workflows
• limited visibility on actual service usage and associated costs
We wanted something more practical.
Our users should not have to redesign their workflows around a data provider.
LuData is designed so that data and modelling outputs can adapt to the way users already work, whether through our interfaces, their own software, internal applications, Excel workflows or automated API pipelines.
We also wanted usage to remain transparent and scalable, with clear metrics for each service, flexible access and pricing that can adapt to actual volumes and needs.
The solar industry has spent years making PV more competitive and accessible around the world.
We believe the data and simulation layer supporting it should move in the same direction.
Ultimately, the goal is to let engineers and energy professionals spend more time on analysis and decisions, and less time connecting data sources, adapting formats and maintaining modelling tools.
And this is only the beginning.
Over the next few posts, we will share concrete examples of what companies can analyse, build and automate with LuData.
