A brilliant piece and interview by Edward Ludlow on Connor Love's move to Andreessen Horowitz's American Dynamism team. One line stood out. Love describes the defence thesis as low-cost autonomy at scale, ten times cheaper, just as performant in mass. He's right, and it's precisely why the more interesting question is quietly becoming a different one. If autonomy gets that cheap, that fast, that plentiful, the constraint stops being the machines. It becomes how quickly and how meaningfully a human can still stay genuinely in the loop as the number of decisions multiplies. Mass without a human keeping proper pace with it isn't deterrence; it's just a faster way to lose control of the story. Having spent a fair amount of time on exactly that problem from the autonomous systems side, I find it hard to reconcile the view that this can be solved by better dashboards. It gets solved by rethinking the interface between a person and the machine entirely, so oversight moves at the speed decisions now do, rather than the speed a screen allows. Hats off to Connor, as someone who's actually advised commanders, leading American Dynamism's defence bets feels like precisely the right instinct.
