Many organisations started a Data Mesh journey. Far fewer reached the outcomes they hoped for. Why?
In the latest episode of The Data Playbook Podcast, Kris Peeters sits down with Arif Wider, professor and long-time data consultant, to discuss what we have learned since the first wave of Data Mesh adoption.
The conversation moves beyond the hype and focuses on the practical questions many data leaders are facing today.
They discuss:
- why Data Products have become a practical starting point for modern data organisations
- where Data Contracts fit into a scalable data architecture
- why every dataset does not need to become a Data Product
- how to modernise legacy data warehouses without replacing everything at once
- what AI agents will change for software engineering and data teams
One idea stood out in particular.
Building Data Products is an investment. The value comes from deciding deliberately where that investment creates the biggest impact, rather than trying to turn every dataset into a product.
