AI this, AI that, but now finally proven in production! It resulted in -60% Memory for us and -50% CPU! How?
I've been reading and following Bun their Zig->Rust rewrite journey (famously named Bun 1.4.0) after being acquired by Anthropic, as it would mean they now have near permanent access to the latest models and quota. On top, Anthropic has to prove to the entire ecosystem that their models work! SO win-win-win for everyone (Bun-Anthropic-Developers).
They started in May and finally merged this yesterday! (20/AUG/26) so I just had to try it out and see if wanted to ship this to our production systems. As typically, something like this does cause regressions!
So the typical journey later, creating a PR, running tests, deploying to staging and testing it out! Let's see what we got, and oh boy was it impressive! The data was eye-opening:
• -60.4% working-set memory (754.6 → 298.5 MiB)
• -49.9% average CPU
• +27.1% traced traffic over the same test window
• 24–33% lower median API latency
