AI doesn’t need to break in. It may already have permission.
As AI agents gain access to applications, data and business-critical systems, they become identities in their own right. The credentials are valid, the permissions are approved and the activity looks legitimate, even when that access is misused.
AI doesn’t create a new identity challenge. It amplifies an existing one.
Our colleagues at Cronos Security explored how AI amplifies an existing identity challenge. Their latest article explains how legitimate access can still become a serious security risk.
For us, the conclusion is clear: AI agents need a defined owner, least-privilege access, lifecycle management and continuous monitoring.
If an AI agent can act, its identity must be governed. That means extending IGA to AI agents, so their access is properly approved, reviewed and removed when no longer needed.
