So are five fresh reasons to feel optimistic 👇 💳 Walmart finally says yes to tap-to-pay After years of relying on its own payment solutions, Walmart is rolling out contactless payments, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, across its US stores. The first locations go live today, with the full network expected to follow by the end of 2026. ──────── 🤖 A fresh pair of eyes on Tesco’s shelves Tesco is extending its UK trial of Simbe’s autonomous inventory robot. Tally moves through the aisles looking for empty shelves, misplaced products and incorrect prices, giving store teams a clearer picture of what needs attention. ──────── 📦 From container to pallet, automatically BAUHAUS Deutschland has deployed robotic goods receiving at its central warehouse in Krefeld, Germany. Robots from XYZ Robotics now unload, sort and palletise incoming goods in one continuous workflow, while warehouse teams can focus on less repetitive tasks. ──────── ✈️ Smarter cargo handling at Heathrow Menzies Aviation is trialling technology from CIND that measures cargo while it moves through the warehouse. It captures dimensions, weight and shipment data, then checks loads against aircraft contours to identify potential problems before loading. ──────── 🚁 One million drone deliveries a day Uber and Zipline are teaming up to scale autonomous delivery across the US. The first Uber Eats deployments are planned for later this year, with the two companies aiming for one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029. ──────── What we liked this week: none of these projects adds technology simply for the sake of it.
