Ogone
TLDR
Ogone was a Brussels-based pan-European online payments company, founded in 1996 and acquired by Ingenico for EUR 360M in 2013.
Overview
Ogone was founded in 1996 as Abssys Consulting by Harold Mechelynck and Thierry Pierson, and grew into a pan-European online merchant payment services provider. The company managed and secured online payments for card-not-present transactions across e-commerce, m-commerce, and mail order, while also offering fraud prevention services.
In January 2013, French payments group Ingenico agreed to acquire Ogone for EUR 360M, paying EUR 120M in cash and EUR 240M via bank credit. After the acquisition, the business was renamed Ingenico Payment Services. The deal made Ogone one of the largest Belgian Fintech exits at the time.
