
Ben Somers
Ben Somers is the founder and chief executive of Brainphonics, a company he started in September 2024 and which is based in Leuven.
He spent nine years at KU Leuven beforehand. He joined as a doctoral researcher in October 2015, continued as a postdoctoral researcher from January to August 2021, and then worked as a business developer from September 2021 until August 2024.
Somers was also active in the Board of European Students of Technology, serving as president of BEST Leuven from August 2014 to August 2015 and as a soft skill trainer from July 2015 to March 2018. He attended the organisation's bePROUD13 trainshop on leadership and project management in Leuven in 2014 and the 23rd edition of Trainer's Camp in Cluj-Napoca in 2015.
He studied at KU Leuven, taking a bachelor's degree in mechanical and electrical engineering from 2010 to 2013 and a master's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from 2013 to 2015. He completed an MBA at Flanders Business School between 2020 and 2022, and attended secondary school in mathematics and sciences at Xaveriuscollege Borgerhout from 2004 to 2010.
