
Carolien Lavigne is a co-founder of penumbra, a role she has held since January 2025. Based in Glabbeek, she also runs Inquinox as business owner, which she started in December 2024, and has been a research expert at HIVA-KU Leuven since February 2024.
Her career has been largely at KU Leuven. She was a research manager at the KU Leuven Institute for Mobility from January 2022 to November 2023, and a postdoctoral researcher at KU Leuven from April 2021 to July 2023. Before that she was a doctoral student, first at KU Leuven from January 2016 to May 2020 and then at the Faculty of Engineering Technology, Group T Leuven Campus, from June 2020 to March 2021. Earlier she worked as a supply chain projects specialist at Johnson & Johnson during 2015, and as a consultant at OMP from September 2013 to May 2015.
She holds a PhD in Business Economics and both a master's and a bachelor's degree in Business Engineering from KU Leuven, and spent an Erasmus exchange year at Copenhagen Business School. She also studied French at the University of Lausanne and German at the University of Antwerp and CVO Mechelen.
