Johan Thevelein
Johan Thevelein is the founder and managing director of NovelYeast, a company he founded in August 2019 and which is based in Heverlee.
He was a full professor at KU Leuven from 1986 until September 2020. At VIB he served as department director from July 2002 to December 2016, and then as a senior group leader from January 2017 to September 2020. Between August 2015 and January 2018 he was scientific founder and chief scientific officer of GlobalYeast.
Thevelein obtained a PhD in biology from KU Leuven, studying there from 1973 to 1981, and from 1981 to 1983 carried out experimental yeast research using in vivo NMR at the Dept. Molec. Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.
