
Khalil El Mazouari is the founder and chief executive of abnomx, a company he started in May 2017. He is based in Gent.
Before founding abnomx, he worked in bioinformatics in Belgium, serving as bioinformatics manager at Ablynx from 2003 to August 2007 and, before that, as a bioinformatics scientist at CropDesign, a BASF Plant Science Company, from 2000 to August 2003. Earlier in his career he managed the molecular biology and genetic laboratory of the Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie from 1995 to 1998, and worked as a molecular biologist at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research from 1994 to 1995.
He completed a PhD in molecular biology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1994, following a master's degree in molecular biology and biotechnology at the Université libre de Bruxelles and a bachelor's degree in cell and molecular biology at the University of Lille 1 Sciences and Technology. He also obtained a certificate in business creation from the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management in 2002 and a certificate in systems architecture and life-cycle design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006.
