Marc Decramer

Marc Decramer is a co-founder and board member of artiq, based in Leuven. Since September 2018 he has been executive president of Mind over Matter Consulting and a member of the board of trustees of Leiden University Medical Center, and he has chaired VRGT (Vlaamse Vereniging voor Respiratoire Gezondheidszorgen en Tuberculosebestrijding) since 2005.

He spent much of his career at UZ Leuven, where he was associate professor of medicine from 1984 to 1992, professor of medicine from October 1992 until October 2018, head of the respiratory division from 2006 to 2013 and chief executive from July 2013 to October 2018. Between May 2011 and October 2018 he sat on the boards of various Belgian hospitals. He was chief editor of the European Respiratory Journal from 1999 to 2002, held the president-elect, president and past-president roles of the European Respiratory Society between 2009 and 2012, and chaired the board of directors of the Global Initiative of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) from 2013 to 2016.

Decramer studied medicine at KU Leuven, obtaining his M.D. in 1978, completing residency training in internal medicine and chest medicine from 1978 to 1982 and a Ph.D. in pulmonology in 1986. From 1982 to 1984 he was a research fellow at McGill University, at the Meakins Christie Laboratories of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montréal.
