Niels Bessemans

Niels Bessemans is co-founder and CEO of Optiflux, a company he co-founded in February 2021. He is based in Holsbeek.

Before that, he worked at KU Leuven, where he was a postdoctoral researcher from January 2018 to July 2021 and, from March 2018 to July 2021, held a VLAIO innovation mandate as innovation manager. From August 2013 to February 2018 he held a PhD fellowship from IWT, and in July 2013 he had a student job at the Flanders Centre of Postharvest Technology.

He studied at KU Leuven, completing a bachelor's degree in bioscience engineering with a focus on biosystems engineering in 2011 and a Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering in 2013, followed by a PhD in bioscience engineering in 2018. He took the MBA Bootcamp at Flanders Business School in 2017 and 2018 and a postgraduate programme in corporate finance at KU Leuven in 2018 and 2019.
