Peter Verhaert

Peter Verhaert is the founder of ProteoFormiX, which he established in August 2017, and is based in Vorselaar. Since October 2024 he has been a special lecturer in the Translational Cell & Tissue Research Unit at the University of Leuven Faculty of Medicine, Department of Imaging & Pathology, and a visiting professor at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has been an honorary professor at the Maastricht Multimodal Molecular Imaging Institute (M4i) since June 2017.

From August 2005 to December 2016 he was professor of analytical biotechnology and innovative peptide biology at Technische Universiteit Delft, and between 2009 and 2013 he was a theme and project leader at the Netherlands Proteomics Centre. He was editor-in-chief of Elsevier's EuPA Open Proteomics from 2012 to 2016. He also held visiting positions at Hasselt University and at the Departement de Chimie of the University of Liège, and was an expert scientist at VIB from 2004 to 2010.

Earlier he led the proteomics group at Organon and was a senior proteomics scientist at Innogenetics. He obtained a PhD in comparative neurobiology from KU Leuven in 1987 and was a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Waterloo.
