
Serge De Gheldere is the founder and CEO of futureproofed, based in Leuven. He states expertise in team leadership, business development, carbon footprinting, climate action planning and software as a service.
He founded Klimaatzaak - Affaire Climat in December 2014 and remains its president, and has served as a climate ambassador for Al Gore with The Climate Reality Project since December 2006. In December 2024 he joined the board of advisors of the Helios Foundation. He was CEO of FutureproofedCities from April 1999 to December 2024, and between 2017 and 2021 was an executive and board member at Leuven 2030.
Earlier, he was a guest professor at Groep T from 2007 to 2010 and sat on its board from 2008 to 2013. He was part of the support crew of Solar Team in 2007 and a designer in residence at the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Yale University from 2003 to 2004. He began his career at Baxter R&D Europe, where he worked as a product development engineer and as an associate engineer.
He studied electromechanical engineering at Groep T Leuven, took a master's degree in polymer and composites engineering at KU Leuven, and completed a master's thesis in the same field at Delft University of Technology.
