Tijl De Bie

Tijl De Bie is a co-founder of nobl, based in Gent, where he has served as co-founder and chief scientific officer since February 2024. He has been a full professor at Ghent University since September 2015.

Before returning to Belgium, De Bie spent several years at the University of Bristol, joining as a lecturer in artificial intelligence in January 2007, becoming a senior lecturer in artificial intelligence in August 2011 and then reader in computational pattern analysis from August 2012 until August 2020. He held post-doctoral positions at the University of Southampton from October 2004 to September 2005 and at KU Leuven from October 2005 to January 2007.

De Bie completed a PhD in electrical engineering at KU Leuven, studying there from 1995 to 2005. During that period he was a visiting research scholar in machine learning at the University of California, Berkeley from August 2002 to January 2003 and at the University of California, Davis in September 2003 and again from March to June 2004.
