Tomas Van Oyen
Tomas Van Oyen is the founder of PropheSea and is based in Brugge. He has been its managing director since May 2020, having previously worked as a data science engineer at Yazzoom from April 2017 to April 2020.
Before that he was a researcher at Flanders Hydraulics Research from February 2014 to March 2017, and a post doctoral researcher at Ghent University from April 2010 to January 2014. He spent the first months of 2010 as a hydraulic engineer at DEME Group, following his time as a PhD student at the University of Genoa from January 2007 to December 2009.
Van Oyen holds a PhD in civil engineering from the Università degli Studi di Genova and a Master of Science in Physics of Coastal Systems from Utrecht University. He took courses in machine learning and probabilistic robotics in computer science engineering at Ghent University in 2015 and 2016, and completed the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute course Fundamentals of Accelerated Data Science with RAPIDS in 2020, alongside online courses in HTML and CSS and in functional programming in Python. He attended OLVA.
