Overview

Louvain-la-Neuve is located in the province of Walloon Brabant in Wallonia. The city was purpose-built in the 1970s to house the French-speaking Universite catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) following the split of the historic Leuven university. UCLouvain is one of Belgium's leading research universities, and the city has developed a cluster of biotech, medtech, and technology spin-offs around it. The Louvain Technology Transfer Office and science parks on the campus have been instrumental in commercializing university research.
