Overview
Hompes co-founded Sofico with Piet Maes in Ghent in 1988. He served as CEO through the company's growth to more than 600 employees across 13 offices on five continents, with the Miles platform running automotive finance, operational leasing, fleet management, and mobility operations for 8 of the 10 largest vehicle leasing companies globally and reported revenue around EUR 80M for 2023.
In November 2023 Hompes negotiated a partnership with Astorg Mid-Cap that closed in Q1 2024, with Astorg taking a 51% stake and Hompes, Piet Maes, and previous investor Apheon significantly reinvesting alongside. In September 2025 Hompes and Piet Maes stepped back from operational roles, joining the Sofico Board of Directors while Wim De Bruyne became CEO and Clive Brett became CTO.
