Overview

Walter De Brouwer is a Belgian-born entrepreneur and semiotician (born 1957) with over 27 years of experience founding technology companies. He organised TEDxBrussels, an independently run TED event that helped put Brussels on the map as a destination for ideas and technology discourse. In 1996 he co-founded Starlab with MIT Media Lab founder Nicholas Negroponte. He later co-founded Scanadu in 2011 to develop personal health monitoring technology, and in 2016 founded doc.ai, an AI healthcare company, with his wife Sam De Brouwer. He has helped create over 35 companies, including two that went public. He holds a PhD in Semiotics from Tilburg University and is an adjunct professor at Stanford University Medical School.
