It's the great illusion of 2026: you type a prompt, and 30 seconds later there's a configurator that looks stunning in a demo. Buttons work. Prices appear. Everyone 👏👏👏
Then someone asks it to run in production.
That's the moment the left cylinder in this graphic meets the right one.
A configurator that demos well is Frontend + Backend. A configurator that actually survives a discrete manufacturer is all of that, plus dealer permissions, ERP-synced pricing, a BOM your factory can build from, version control, audit trails, rate limiting for when 200 dealers quote at the same time, and the compliance paperwork nobody puts in the demo video.
We've spent years building Hive CPQ into the full stack on the right, natively on Microsoft Dynamics 365. Not because the frontend is hard. Because everything underneath it is.
Shipping a slick demo is easy. Shipping into enterprise complexity is the work.
