We recently compared three deployments placed in very different environments: a forest path, a site connected to cemetery planning and a skatepark. The differences in age distribution are significant.
In Hallerbos, placed along a walking route, the age profile is very balanced. In Wiesbaden, on a topic related to cemetery planning, the participants are mostly middleโaged adults and older adults. In Bruges, near a skatepark and playground, most respondents are under 18.
This comparison shows that the design of a participation process begins long before the first question. It begins with the choice of location!
This image shows how strongly the context influences who engages with the Dialog Box.
If you work on public engagement or consultation, consider location as a strategic decision that shapes the voices you will hear!
