For all those new graduates and early career candidates struggling to find their dream job, or any job, I want to share a message of hope and encouragement.
Economies go through cycles.
Industries go through cycles.
Individual careers go through cycles.
Technologies rocking the economy is nothing new — nor is it unique to AI or the information age. History is littered with examples big and small: steam engines, electricity, cars, penicillin, the internet, and much more have evolved a lot of jobs. But, by so many metrics, our quality of life and the human experience has improved dramatically over the past ~200 years.
Understand the needs of society and the employer. Look for where you bring differentiated value to a team. Show grit, patience, and flexibility to go where the jobs are and deliver value the team needs. Advocate for yourself but know that change happens - we are all living it.
For those that have landed in a team, congratulations! Strive to be a difference maker and team player. Step up when needed and show grit in providing value to the team; “Let me take care of that.”
Congratulations to my niece who recently joined an outstanding team at Nvidia. I know they’re fortunate to have her as she’s a difference maker with grit.
Best wishes to all!
