Starting January 1, 2027, every retail employer in New York with 500+ employees statewide has to give frontline workers a way to call for help without saying a word. In the past year, the share of retail workers who feel unsafe at work jumped from 27% to 35%. Physical assault reports are up 22% year over year. More than half of retail workers say they're likely to leave their job in the next 12 months over safety concerns.
