The façade gets ignored when we talk about solar. At CoStar Group’s new campus in Richmond, it is difficult to ignore. Around 4,000 m² of ISSOL® Chroma is integrated into the building’s façade, turning the envelope into an active energy-generating surface. Chroma combines photovoltaic technology with coloured architectural glass. The result is a façade that can follow the architectural concept while generating renewable energy. Colour, pattern, transparency and texture become part of the photovoltaic design. The solar technology does not have to dictate what a building looks like. It can become part of the design language. That is where BIPV becomes interesting for architects and developers. Large façade surfaces that were once passive can become active assets without turning the building into a traditional solar installation. 4,000 m² of façade. One architectural vision.
