During our time in Luanda, Jennifer Moriconi and Aminatha Sandiah KANGOUTE from iTraceiT had the opportunity to meet with SODIAM,E.P., for a constructive discussion on traceability, transparency, and the diamond sector's contribution to Angola’s long-term development.
As an institution at the heart of the country’s diamond ecosystem, SODIAM plays an important role in connecting Angola’s natural resources with international markets.
For a country with such an important position in the global diamond industry, transparency goes beyond following the journey of individual stones.
It is also about understanding the wider value chain.
An important part of our discussion focused on how traceable data can support strategic decision-making.
When information is captured consistently across the value chain, it can generate reliable statistics and a clearer picture of how resources move through the ecosystem. This gives decision-makers a stronger factual basis for understanding patterns, identifying opportunities, and informing future priorities.
At the same time, clear and reliable information can strengthen relationships among producers, institutions, businesses, and international partners, while helping to demonstrate the integrity of Angola’s resources and to better understand the connection between its natural resources and national development.
We appreciate Agostinho Cussomba, Director of Internal Auditing, Compliance, Standards & Quality at SODIAM, for this constructive dialogue and the opportunity to deepen our understanding of the local ecosystem.
Conversations like these demonstrate that traceability is not only about documenting what has already happened, the data it generates can also help inform what comes next.
