Ethylene oxide is one of the most effective and widely used sterilization agents in the medtech industry. 🔬
EO is a highly reactive gas that penetrates deeply into materials and packaging, reaching even the most inaccessible areas. It inactivates microorganisms through alkylation, preventing replication and ensuring sterility. Because the process operates at low temperatures, it is particularly suitable for heat-sensitive products such as medical devices and their packaging. 📦🌡️
EO sterilization is subject to defined technical and normative requirements for process development, validation, routine control and residual management. ISO 11135 provides the framework for the sterilization process, while ISO 10993-7 addresses allowable EO residuals on sterilized medical devices. ✅
