Vishing isn’t new, but in 2026 the voice on the other end of the phone is increasingly not human. AI is making phone scams more convincing and "personalized". Recent research found that 31% of consumers surveyed across six countries said they had received a deepfake voice call in the previous 12 months. 🤖 AI voice cloning can impersonate colleagues, executives or family members, adding another layer of credibility to social engineering. 📲 Caller ID spoofing can make a fraudulent call appear to come from a trusted organisation or familiar number. ⚡Automation means scale. AI agents can help fraudsters increase the volume of voice attacks while deepfakes make targeted attacks more effective. 💬 Attacks are increasingly multi-channel. A text or other message can establish the pretext and direct the victim towards a fraudulent phone conversation. Protecting that trust will require stronger caller authentication and fraud intelligence.
