📄 New report: Connecting Europe's XR Funding Landscape In April 2026, NewImages and XR4Europe convened the first Immersive Media Funding Think Tank in Paris, hosted by #NewImagesFestival, bringing together public funds, cultural institutions, audiovisual agencies, creative tech clusters and intermediary organisations from across Europe to talk about one thing: how can XR funding actually work better for creators and producers? The conversation covered a lot of ground: 🔹 Eligibility & structural alignment: XR keeps falling between funding categories built for film, games or innovation, with evaluation committees often drawing on adjacent fields rather than XR-specific expertise. 🔹 Regional inequalities: funding, producer capacity and exhibition infrastructure remain unevenly distributed across Europe, and existing mitigation measures aren't enough on their own. 🔹 Pathways forward: shared terminology, better data on where XR funding is actually going, and stronger support for exhibition and distribution came through as the most practical next steps. The discussion also lands at a key moment: the EU's proposed #AgoraEU programme (2028–2034) doesn't yet recognise immersive media as a distinct category within its Media+ strand, a gap XR4Europe and others are pushing to see addressed. This is just the start of the conversation, follow-up sessions are planned at UnitedXR Europe in December and NewImages Festival in 2027. #XR #ImmersiveMedia #EUfunding #ThinkTank
