A chatbot lives or dies on two things: is it smart enough, and is it easy to talk to 💬
The first is a technical question. The second is where the UX work lives, and it comes down to a few things we keep seeing teams get wrong.
• Users can't like a chatbot they can't find. Which sounds obvious until you notice how many live tucked away in a forgotten corner of a page that hardly anyone visits.
• Don't make people type out full questions. Well-placed buttons, clickable tiles, and dropdowns get them to an answer faster.
• The best chatbots know what page a conversation started on and answer accordingly. If yours can't, at least keep it out of crucial pages (like the checkout) where you don't want users to drop-off.
• Then there's scroll behaviour. Auto-scrolling to the bottom on every new message might feel considerate. It actually breaks the reading flow.
