“Kafka is durable by design, so I don't need backups.” WRONG! ❌
A lot of people forget that the biggest threat to their stability isn't hardware, but human error. And as great as Kafka is, that's one thing it can't prevent.
Kafka's replication is fantastic at surviving a broker crash. But it will also happily replicate an accidental topic deletion or a stream of bad data across your entire cluster. And believe us: a small error can turn into a massive disaster very quickly.
