A Digital Product Passport needs a live platform.
It also needs a plan for the day that platform changes, is replaced or can no longer serve the passport.
The economic operator still carries the responsibility for product information. A platform transition, supplier failure or corporate restructuring does not make the passport less relevant.
That is why DPP architecture needs two distinct layers:
1. the primary platform for day-to-day operation;
2. an independent preservation and continuity layer for the agreed DPP package.
The second layer should retain the right historical package, its supporting information and the rules for controlled retrieval.
This is the question behind DPP back-up and continuity.
