Overview

Wallonia is one of Belgium's three official regions, covering the southern part of the country. The region contains five provinces: Hainaut, Namur, Liege, Luxembourg, and Walloon Brabant. Wallonia's economy has historically been anchored in heavy industry, and the region has been working to develop a technology and innovation sector built around university research, particularly at UCLouvain in Louvain-la-Neuve and the University of Liege.
