Jeroen Jacobs
Jeroen Jacobs is Managing Partner at Cloudar, a role he took up in February 2026 after joining the company as Commercial Director in February 2025. He is based in North Brabant.
Before Cloudar, he spent several years with Oblivion | Part of Xebia, joining in November 2017 as a cloud business and cloud sales consultant, becoming Chief Commercial Officer for AWS Cloud in January 2021 and holding the chief commercial role for the AWS Cloud service line at Xebia from June 2021 until January 2025. During that period he was also Product Owner for AWS Cloud Foundation at AEGON in 2019.
Earlier, he worked as a consultant and project manager with Itility, Marel, NN Group, ASML, Ziggo, ZuidZorg and DSM, and before that managed the Competence Center Cloud Service Aggregation at KPN IT Solutions from 2012 to 2014.
He co-founded the AWS User Group NL in 2019 and founded Wolqq.com in February 2025. He also serves on the committee of SNK Orchestra and on the owners' board at Landal Het Vennenbos.
He studied Bedrijfskundige Informatica at Avans University of Applied Sciences.
Insights & takeaways
Jeroen Jacobs writes almost entirely from inside the AWS ecosystem, and the throughline across his posts is that raw headline numbers are less interesting than what sits underneath them. Commenting on Amazon's Q2 2026 results, he notes AWS grew "36.7% to $42.2B last quarter, its fastest in 18 quarters and the fifth straight quarter of acceleration," but immediately redirects attention away from that figure, arguing that "everyone will quote that number" while "the forward-looking signals underneath it matter much more" . This is a consistent habit in his commentary: take a widely reported data point and use it as a jumping-off point for planning implications rather than treating it as the story itself.
Cost management is another recurring plank of his thinking, and here he is direct about the scale of waste in cloud environments. He frames cloud cost optimization not as a one-off cleanup exercise but as part of a broader cloud financial management discipline that runs from strategy through operations, and he points to concrete, underused levers, such as reserved instances, being adopted by less than half of AWS users despite being a quick win 13. His emphasis throughout is that visibility and awareness are what actually drive accountability and continuous improvement, not one-time interventions 13.
On data sovereignty, Jacobs takes a deliberately contrarian stance against what he sees as an emotionally driven debate. Writing alongside Jeroen van der Leer for Het Financieele Dagblad, he states plainly that "the sovereignty debate is running on sentiment. It should be running on facts" . His argument rests on specifics rather than assertion: the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, live from Brandenburg since January, offering "full EU isolation," operation "by EU residents," governance "under German law," escrow arrangements, and "no operator access" . Laying these details next to the alternatives, he concludes that "this may be one of the most sovereign cloud platforms available to the EU today" , a position he repeats in a slightly rougher phrasing elsewhere: "Looking at the facts, the AWS Sovereign cloud the might be the most sovereign cloud for the EU" . The consistency of this claim across two posts suggests it is a settled, not tentative, position for him.
He is equally willing to make competitive claims about cloud providers when the evidence, in his view, supports it. Observing a pattern among prospective clients, he states that "Amazon Web Services (AWS) can be an answer to Microsoft Azure's #capacity issues," describing how Cloudar's sales team had been approached repeatedly by companies that "initially planned to build on Azure but hit capacity constraints," affecting "not just niche services" but "core resources too, VMs and managed databases," with "quota requests" getting "backlogged" and "deployments" failing, and "no clear timeline from Microsoft on when it frees up" . He frames this as a live, multi-region European problem, asking prospective readers directly, "Is your organization running into the same wall?" , and positions Cloudar's partner status as a practical response rather than a purely rhetorical jab.
Beyond strategy and competitive positioning, Jacobs treats community-building and partner ecosystems as integral to how AWS work actually gets done, not as a side activity. He highlights involvement in launching the first AWS User Group Women Utrecht meetup hosted at Cloudar's office , participation in the AWS Smart Business podcast recorded live at the AWS Summit Amsterdam with customers from Condoor and Zonneplan on how enterprise systems are evolving as AI integrates with in-house and IoT infrastructure , visibility in Anthropic's enterprise partner network build-out , and long-running support relationships such as the one with the AI platform Jamess.app under Cloudar's resell partnership model . Taken together, these posts show someone who sees technical credibility and community presence as mutually reinforcing, with Cloudar's identity as a boutique player within the larger Cronos ecosystem treated as a genuine asset .
A more personal reflection, prompted by a wine-tasting visit to winemaker Ilja Gort's estate, reveals the value system underneath his professional commentary. Describing the winemaker's approach to a limited-edition red, he writes that "no shortcuts, no 'good enough', dedication and passion" defined every choice in the process, "serving one single goal: making the best possible wine," and concludes simply, "it inspired me" . While framed as a personal aside, it lines up closely with how he talks about cloud cost discipline, sovereignty claims, and competitive positioning elsewhere: an insistence on rigor, specificity, and refusing to settle for surface-level answers.
The practical takeaway from Jacobs's body of work is that he treats headline cloud metrics, sovereignty claims, and competitive comparisons all the same way, as things to be inter

Jeroen Jacobs discusses how cloud cost management is complex and challenging, noting that approximately one-third of cloud costs are typically wasted and that only 47% of AWS users utilize reserved instances despite them being a quick win for optimization. He presents cloud cost optimization as part of a broader cloud financial management discipline that progresses from strategy through operations, emphasizing that establishing visibility and awareness drives accountability and continuous improvement.
