Toon Nicolay

Toon Nicolay is the managing director of Basil, a role he took up in October 2025. He is based in Antwerp.

He founded Basil in October 2013 and held the founder role there until October 2025, when he moved into his current position.

Before that, Nicolay was a doctoral researcher at the Research Foundation Flanders - FWO from October 2009 to September 2013.

He studied bioscience engineering, completing a bachelor's degree at the University of Antwerp between 2004 and 2007 and a master's degree at KU Leuven between 2007 and 2009, both with greatest distinction. He attended Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Lourdescollege Edegem (OLVE) from 1998 to 2004, following the Latin-Science track.
