Wim Wuyts

Wim Wuyts served as CEO and Managing Director of WTS Global, a global network of tax advisors. He previously held the position of VP and Global Head of Tax at Bekaert, where he was part of the global senior leadership team. In 2016, he founded the International School for Tax Leadership, offering executive programs globally.

Outside his tax career, Wuyts served as an independent board member at Upgrade Estate, the Ghent-based connected housing company co-founded by Nele Van Damme and Koenraad Belsack. He also had ties to Wintercircus and the Brussels-Africa Hub, and was involved in L.Arena, an art installation project in Venice.

Insights & takeaways

Across his public commentary, Wim Wuyts returns again and again to a single idea: that leadership, whether in a law firm, a family business, or a cross-border deal, is fundamentally about trust built over time rather than transactions closed in a moment. He states this most directly when discussing succession planning, arguing that "succession is not an event, but a process. A journey shaped by stewardship, governance, trust, and meaningful dialogue across generations" . This is not an abstract position for him; he frames the advisory work at Tiberghien Lawyers as standing "alongside families as they navigate growth and transition, while safeguarding the values, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit that have shaped their success" . The same instinct surfaces when he recalls a deal that has stayed with him more than any headline transaction: not the biggest, not the most publicized, but one negotiated "around a family kitchen table" . For Wuyts, the substance of a deal lives in relationships and human dynamics, not in the polish of data rooms and presentations.

That emphasis on trust extends explicitly into how he thinks about operating across cultures. He recounts a formative moment in Beijing, where a meeting with civil servants and translators felt "polite, indirect and, to my Western ears, almost impossible to read." When he asked his local lawyers whether things were going well, they told him, "Trust the process, Wim. We will be landing this in a few weeks" . He treats this as a lesson no classroom could teach: that leading globally requires surrounding yourself with strong local leaders and trusting their judgment as "not optional, it is essential" . He applies the same logic to relationships that outlast organizational boundaries, writing of the WTS Africa team that "the strongest professional relationships transcend organisations" , describing Africa itself as "a community of builders, dreamers and bridge-makers" .

This trust-first philosophy also shapes how he talks about institution-building. In recounting the creation of Svalner Atlas Advisors from the 2024 combination of Svalner Group and Atlas Tax Lawyers, he insists the story "was never just about scale" but about entrepreneurs who believed they could build something greater together, concluding that "enduring platforms are not created by financial engineering alone. They emerge when trust is strong enough for people to share ambition, take risks together and invest in a common future" . He extends this to how he frames professional recognition itself, downplaying the value of awards shortlists in favor of the people behind them: "The real award is not the recognition. It's the partnership who trust the entire team enough to build something impactful together" .

Wuyts is also attentive to the personal cost and reinvention that leadership transitions demand, particularly when ownership structures change. Reflecting on private equity transitions, he underscores that moving from a corporate environment to a PE-backed business is "a transition between two fundamentally different ecosystems," one that requires "redefining your role, rebuilding your network, and adapting your leadership style" regardless of past success . This is consistent with his broader curiosity about how professional roles are evolving: he expresses genuine interest in the emerging figure of the "legal engineer... someone who sits at the intersection of law, technology, and process design," inviting people in that space to share how they see the future of legal service delivery .

Alongside these professional convictions, Wuyts writes with unguarded emotional register about football, music, and personal values, and these threads are not incidental but reveal how he thinks about identity and belonging more broadly. Describing a Red Devils match, he writes that "football is rarely just football. It carries identity, belonging, hope, pride, and sometimes [often] frustration" , and he does not hide the personal stakes, admitting he "slept barely two hours" the night of a big match . He is equally candid about public integrity, amplifying commentary on "the astonishing openness with which corruption seems to have become acceptable" and "the casual mixing of public office and private interest" . His declaration "Love.is.Love" during Berlin Pride fits the same pattern of stating personal convictions plainly and without qualification.

Finally, Wuyts frames his own development as an ongoing, deliberate practice rather than a finished credential. He describes attending the High-Performance Board Member program at IESE, and draws a parallel between visiting business school campuses and visiting football stadiums, noting "every stadium has its story. Every campus has its spirit, smell" . He credits conversations from that program, such as one with a fellow board member who dedicates a week annually to executive reflection, as the kind of practical wisdom that sticks with him more than formal instruction . In the same reflective register, he treats cultural experiences like Ghent Jazz as spaces "where music, conversation and friendship meet," valuing them not for genre purism but for the relationships they generate .

Taken together, the throughline in Wuyts's public voice is consistent: institutions, deals, and careers are built and sustained through trust, relationships, and a willingness to reinvent oneself, whether that reinvention is prompted by ownership change, cross-cultural leadership, or generational succession. He treats professional achievement as inseparable from personal character, repeatedly returning to the idea that lasting outcomes, in business or otherwise, are earned through people who choose to trust
