Apixa

Overview

Apixa was founded in 2007 as Vision++ BVBA, a spin-off from the Visics-PSI computer vision group at KU Leuven. The three founders, Kurt Cornelis, Geert Caenen, and Rik Fransens, had worked together for nearly eight years at the lab before starting the company. In April 2008 the entity converted to an NV and welcomed Allegro Investment Fund and Asgard Invest as investors, alongside KU Leuven Research & Development. Vision++ rebranded as Apixa in 2022.

The company operates from Interleuvenlaan 15 in Heverlee, on the Leuven research park, with around 30 employees. Apixa combines custom R&D services with productised solutions, including the 3D Log Scanner, 3D Edge Scanner, and 3D T&G Scanner for the wood industry, the BinPicker++ software stack for robotic bin picking, and HSI-Cal for hyperspectral camera calibration.

Capabilities span deep learning, optical system design, hyperspectral imaging, 3D vision, edge and cloud compute, and GPU processing. Apixa contributes to industry R&D consortia and has been listed as a project partner with Innoviris in Brussels-region research programmes.
