- Last week, I asked whether Clubs can out-develop a market they can’t out-buy. This summer, UEFA made that question a lot more pressing. It fined several Clubs for overspending, some of them among the richest in Europe. The rule they broke is simple: no more than 70% of revenue can go to wages, transfer costs and agent fees. - Premier League clubs spent more than €4 billion this summer. A record. Again. For most club owners and CEOs in Europe, that number isn’t a benchmark. It’s a weather report.
