Overview
EDENT1FI aims to identify early-stage Type 1 Diabetes in children by screening 200,000 children across Europe for biomarkers (auto-antibodies) associated with the condition. The mission encompasses early detection of T1D in children and provision of continuous support and education to families navigating this challenge.

- Type 1 diabetes is too often only caught once it’s an emergency, when life-threatening diabetic ketoacidosis has developed. Catching T1D in early stages can prevent these emergencies, but to find people at risk we need to implement screening on a much larger scale. At Foundation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND) last Friday, Jurgen Vercauteren presented EDENT1FI's perspective on why informed and engaged healthcare professionals are essential for successful screening programmes. Before screening can become routine practice, healthcare professionals need to understand and trust the value of identifying T1D long before symptoms appear.
