Overview
ENVELOPE is a HORIZON JU Innovation Action funded under HORIZON-JU-SNS-2023, running for 36 months from January 2024 to December 2026. The project aims to advance and broaden 5G architecture into a vertical-oriented framework with interfaces tailored to Connected and Automated Mobility use cases. It operates trial sites in Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands.

- What happens to a car's ECU if the network drops in the middle of a remote firmware update? With a single wireless link, nothing good. That is why remote ECU flashing has stayed out of reach for most independent car repair garages. Our project REACT-5G, funded through ENVELOPE Open Call #1, tackles exactly this. We send the diagnostic session over 5G and Wi-Fi at the same time, coordinated by ENVELOPE's ATSSS multi-connectivity, with Predictive QoS and Device Location deciding when a flash may start and how it is protected. - ENVELOPE Italian Trial Site — in action How can future networks support connected and automated mobility? The ENVELOPE Italian Trial Site explored this question through two demonstrations: 🚗 Advanced In-Service Reporting Using vehicle and surrounding sensor data to support accident reconstruction and first responders. 🗺️ Dynamic Collaborative Mapping Using sensor data from connected vehicles to detect changes in the road environment and support HD map updates. Both scenarios rely on a dynamically configurable B5G/6G network

The ENVELOPE Italian Trial Site demonstrated how connected vehicles, edge computing and dynamically configurable B5G/6G networks can work together to support more adaptive mobility services. - What happens behind the scenes when connected mobility services need the network to adapt? Automated vehicles do not always have the same communication and computing requirements. A vehicle involved in an accident may suddenly need to transmit large amounts of sensor data. Another vehicle may need to share information about a change in the road environment — or download an updated HD map. - Autonomous driving in action During the ENVELOPE Italian Trial Site, connected and automated mobility technologies moved from concept to a real-world demonstration.
