Eurogentec, registered as Kaneka Eurogentec S.A., is a biotechnology company and contract development and manufacturing organisation based in the Liege Science Park in Seraing. It was founded in 1985 as a spin-off of the University of Liege by professors Joseph Martial and Andre Renard, together with industrialists Jean-Claude Lahaut and Hubert Vandecapelle, and its first work centred on a genetically engineered vaccine to improve fish breeding. It began synthesising oligonucleotides for research laboratories in 1987 and moved into contract manufacturing for the biopharmaceutical sector in 1996, working with SmithKline Beecham. The catalogue and services span oligonucleotides, PCR and qPCR reagents and kits, peptides, proteins and polyclonal, monoclonal and VHH antibodies. GMP services cover plasmid DNA, produced since 2004 at gram to kilogram scale, mRNA in batches of 0.5 to 50 grams, recombinant proteins and antibody fragments in E. coli and P. pastoris, therapeutic oligonucleotides and peptides. Eurogentec has more than 10,000 square metres of production area across four manufacturing sites, two in Belgium, one in the United Kingdom and one in the United States, and reports 492 employees worldwide. It acquired Oswel Research Products in 1999, Wita Proteomics in 2002 and AnaSpec in 2009. Kaneka Corporation took a majority stake in 2010. Lieven Janssens is president.
