- ExcellentNews: Dr. Lieze Dankers has successfully defended her PhD thesis, “Plasma technology as biosensor surface modification toolkit: bridging the gap from research to industry”! 🎉 In her doctoral research, Lieze explored aerosol-assisted atmospheric plasma deposition (#AAPD) as a fast, dry and scalable approach for #biosensor surface engineering. Her work demonstrated how AAPD can create universal coatings for stable protein attachment on diverse sensor materials, combine sensing proteins and stabilising components in a
- ProudMoment: Congratulations to our Dr. Simão Monteiro Belo dos Santos on successfully defending his PhD thesis! 🎓🎉 In his research, “Increasing ethical egg production with a low-cost, rapid in ovo sexing SIMPLE-RPA microfluidic platform”, Simão developed an innovative approach combining microfluidics, DNA amplification, and rapid diagnostics to support more ethical and sustainable egg production. We are very proud of this important achievement and grateful for Simão’s dedication, enthusiasm, and contribution to the
- JustPublished: Dr Julie Van Lent and Dr Karen Ven’s work on rheological characterization of stiffness and photodegradation rate of Fe(III)-alginate hydrogels is now online in Soft Matter! This study presents a detailed rheological analysis of Fe(III)-alginate hydrogels, linking mechanical stiffness to photodegradation behaviour; key insights for designing tunable, light-responsive biomaterials. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ei-zb8j8 Huge congratulations to everyone involved, and special thanks to Vincent
- ExcitingNews: a new chapter has begun for the Lammertyn Lab! 🚀 This week, we officially moved into our new home in the new Bioscience building! Behind, we leave Biosystems II, which, after so many years, brings back memories of the challenges, successes, teamwork, and growth. We are grateful for everything it has represented throughout the years. We are now excited to settle into an environment that will support new ideas, strengthen collaborations, and the setting for the next generation of breakthroughs by the Lammertyn Lab.
- JobOpportunity: Our collaborators at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (ITM) are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive scientific staff member/expert in molecular biology with a particular interest in #HIV. The position contributes to molecular HIV diagnostics and follow-up, including the development and validation of molecular tests, quality assurance, scientific research, and collaboration with national and international partners. Are you a scientist with a Master’s degree or PhD in biomedical sciences,
- From innovative microfluidics to real-world products At the Lammertyn Lab, we develop innovative #microfluidic technologies that enable advanced, decentralised microsampling, with the ambition of making high-quality biological sampling simpler, more accessible, and less dependent on traditional laboratory infrastructure. But translating a promising research technology into a robust, user-friendly product requires more than scientific innovation. It requires close collaboration with experts in product design, engineering and
- ExcitingNews from the lab! 📣💧 We are thrilled to welcome our new #PicoP precision microdispenser from Polypico Technologies Ltd! This innovative system will enhance our liquid-handling capabilities by enabling precise, non-contact dispensing of ultra-low sample volumes. Its disposable cartridge technology will help us minimise cross-contamination, reduce reagent consumption and generate highly controlled microdroplets. We look forward to applying the Pico P in our LISCO Innovation lab to advance our research in #microfluidics,
- JustPublished: we are thrilled to share the latest publication from our lab by Seppe Driesen, Dr. Dries Vloemans and Dr. Karen Leirs, “DNA-FLASH—a DNAzyme Walker-Based Nanosensor for Digital Biosensing at the Point of Care” in ACS Nano! This work brings together the programmability of #DNA nanotechnology with digital #biosensing, offering a novel strategy toward highly sensitive and point-of-care-compatible diagnostics. By pushing #nanosensor design in this direction, the study highlights an exciting step forward for
